On a cold and beautiful afternoon, with light rain and clouds covering the mountains of Espírito Santo, we went out as a family for a walk. We stopped at a restaurant surrounded by greenery, facing Pedra Azul (hidden by the mist), and there we found a cherry tree filled with soft pink blossoms, standing among other trees.
On the porch, near the cherry tree, many small birds came and went. I was with my daughter and picked up my camera: I wanted to photograph that movement, but even more than that, I wanted her to be part of it. So I suggested a game—I would only photograph the birds she pointed at.
We stayed there for quite a while as we waited for our food. She pointed her finger at each bird she noticed, and I tried to capture it. Little by little, it became a small lesson in attention and wonder. I would say, “look at the one with the yellow head,” “that one kissing the flower,” “look at the blue bird…” And she guided me—tiny fingers pointing, eyes learning how to truly see.
While she practiced observation, I trained speed and precision: I had only one click to photograph the bird she chose—this was the challenge I set for myself. It was fast and intense. We worked together like a team, so present in the moment that we didn’t even notice time passing—and not even the brief rain made us stop.
This is a series of memories that live behind each photograph. The focus is not only on what the camera sees, but on what remains alive after the image is made: the shared experience, the affection, and the presence that existed while creating each frame. These scenes are not trapped on paper or on a screen—they remain imprinted in our memories and in our hearts, revisited like small time capsules.
In this way, memory becomes something precious: it brings us immense joy—not only because we can remember it, but because of the care with which we keep it over time, and the pleasure of reliving this story within us whenever we wish. Because these memories always remain there, in a unique place where they can truly be accessed: in our senses and in our hearts. There, they stay protected, intimate, and filled with emotion—ready to return when revisited, or when recognized in some experience throughout our lives.
This sequence of photographs carries deep memories of connection between father and daughter—held in the heart and recalled with every image. The series is also an invitation for parents to live and preserve, with presence and affection, a simple moment alongside their children.
